Crime statistics have revealed that residents living in Birmingham city centre experience at least one home being burgled every day of the year.
Burglary Rates in Birmingham: A Growing Concern
According to figures from police.uk, as reported by West Midlands police, the city centre had 378 residential break-ins during the last 12 months – (equivalent to 31 for each individual month.
Further data on the conurbation’s burglary hotspots shows that Edgbaston (one of Birmingham’s wealthiest areas where million-pound properties abound) was the worst affected area beyond the middle of the city. The neighbourhood experienced 301 house break-ins over the same period.
In the list of crime-hit locations throughout Birmingham, Lozells and East Handworth, was close behind Edgbaston with 291 burglaries.
It’s hard to find a single area where there were less than 120 break-ins a year, tantamount to one burglary every three days.

How to Protect Your Home from Burglars
Commenting on the figures, Justice Fire & Security Managing Director, Dave Sanders, said it showed that thieves were striking indiscriminately, and no area could be considered particularly safe.
“The idea that burglars only target larger homes is disproved by these depressing statistics,” he remarked. “That’s why it is so important to take your home security very seriously, wherever you live.”
Dave advised that whilst there was no 100% guarantee against burglary, homeowners greatly reduce their chances of being targeted by having an intruder alarm installed. Other useful precautionary measures include making sure windows, doors, garages and sheds are locked at night and when the property is unoccupied. Also, if you are out in the evening, try to leave some lights on to give the appearance that there is someone at home.
“Nothing beats having an intruder alarm system fitted and it needn’t be out of reach financially,” Dave added. “With its affordable monthly payments, the Justice Home Security Subscription is the most efficient and cost-effective way to have a professionally monitored intruder alarm installed – exactly what’s required to keep the burglars away.”
