When it comes to the installation and upkeep of intruder and fire alarm systems, you could be chancing your arm if you are relying on sub-standard or outdated equipment, which might not have been fitted correctly and isn’t being properly maintained.
Putting aside any financial risk, inconvenience or emotional distress that a break-in or fire may cause, people’s lives could well depend upon the reliability of that very equipment - whether at home or in a work environment.
That’s why it is essential to set the bar high on all matters of safety and security – from the quality of the products to the level of workmanship and ongoing service connected to their installation and upkeep.
1. National Security Inspectorate (NSI)
Justice Fire and Security prides itself on being at the forefront of industry excellence in matters concerning domestic and business security and fire safety.
Firstly, we are founder members of the National Security Inspectorate (NSI), widely recognised as the leading certification body for the security sector. This covers intruder alarms, access control, CCTV and fire alarms. Within the organisation, we are recognised as being NSI Gold, or NACOSS Gold, accredited.
To achieve Gold Standard NSI status, a company must have ISO 9001 Quality Management, regarded as the industry’s highest standard of business excellence.
These aren’t just standards that can be attained and maintained without a lot of ongoing scrutiny, assessment and auditing. NSI Gold accreditation is designed to be a mark of long-term competence and capability, where staff training, assessment and supervision have to meet the most stringent standards.
2. British Approvals for Fire Equipment (BAFE)
Meanwhile, we are also a BAFE-accredited company. BAFE stands for British Approvals for Fire Equipment, set up nearly 30 years ago as an independent body committed to improving fire protection standards across the UK.
To be registered with BAFE, one must have achieved third-party certification for fire protection services. This is an important marker because, if your fire safety equipment has been installed and maintained by a company with BAFE registration, it provides confirmation that the equipment is not only fit for purpose but also shows a level of fire safety conformity.
This can be used as a statutory defence in law, should the need ever arise. Put another way, in the event of a fire-related incident, you could find yourself legally exposed if the installation hasn’t been carried out by a BAFE-registered provider.
Our BAFE accreditation is also linked to the NSI Fire Gold Scheme since we hold the SP203 Modular Scheme for Fire Detection and Alarm Systems.
Being part of BAFE schemes is an indication of the commitment to service excellence – and peace of mind for businesses and consumers alike. That’s not just our view. At both the National and Local Government levels, within the Fire Brigade, as well as across the insurance industry, the recommendation is that all fire safety systems should be BAFE-approved and checked.
3. British Security Industry Association (BSIA)
To add a further layer of assurance and protection, we are also active members of the BSIA, short for the British Security Industry Association. More than 70% of UK security products and services are provided by BAFE member companies. Rather like the BAFE, this is an organisation that works closely with frontline service providers, such as the Association of Chief Police Officers, the Association of British Insurers and the Insurers Property Crime Research Group. Each keeps a close eye on the procedures and processes surrounding the installation andmonitoring of intruder alarm systems. The BSIA is way more than a talking shop. The security industry is constantly evolving and technology is moving forward at unprecedented speed. Much of this is to do with the upgrading and integration of intruder alarms, access control and CCTV. For companies such as Justice Fire & Security, this is both exciting and challenging - but always designed to improve the customer experience.
